Dressing for your body type

Bodies come in different shapes and sizes, influenced by a person’s frame and composition. Some bodies are curvier, some have broad shoulders, and some have more musculature. This article focuses on common body shapes and body types.

The five basic body types

1.Athletic/rectangular body shape
A rectangle body shape presents fairly uniform measurements with rather straight waistlines.Since this body type is the most common one, almost any dress is designed to fit a rectangular frame. Consider exploring different sleeve types and cinched waistlines.

Tip:If you want to dress for this body type, you should avoid boxy or shapeless clothing, as they’ll just hide your shape even more. Focus on adding dimension to hips and shoulders while pulling in your waist as much as possible.

2.Triangle/Pear/spoon
Pear body shapes feature wider hips and thighs, and smaller shoulders and bust. These bodies usually present narrow waistlines in comparison to the hips.

Tip:A-line and maxi dresses are very flattering for ladies with this body type. You can also divert the attention away from your hips with full skirt dresses.

3.Hourglass
These are curvy body types with even bust and hip measurements, and significantly narrower waistlines.Fitted clothing is the best option for dressing your body type.

This body type is characterized by broad shoulders, large bust and smaller hips, with a waistline not clearly defined.
Choose fabrics that sit close to your body but do not cling.

5.Inverted triangle body shape
This type has great shoulders that are wider than your waist and hips. They often come with lovely, shapely legs.

Tip:Choose dress styles that add volume and attention to your hips. This not only draws eyes down from the upper body but can create a more defined waistline.
